Dr. Katheryn Poole, DDS
Chairperson
I was appointed to the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District Commission October 2006; term expires January 31, 2010. Currently serving on the Paradise Park subcommittee and was elected Assistant Chairman of the Commission in July 2008.
I have been a resident of the Big Bear Valley since 1982. I have been active in and/or had leadership positions in several Community and Professional Organizations. Professionally, I have been in Dentistry for over 25 years. I have been a General Dentist and Partner in Bear Valley Dental Care for the last 16 years.
Along with my husband, we are raising two young children in the valley and enjoy many of the services and programs the Park District provides. The Park District continues to grow and provide more services and opportunities to all the residents and visitors of our valley
Having lived in Big Bear since 1978, I have seen our Parks and Recreation opportunities change drastically. I taught swimming lessons in the previous Meadow Park pool; my children played Little League Baseball at Meadow Park; they played soccer at North Shore Elementary School; they earned their "B's" learning to snow ski. In addition to wanting our community to have a broad range of recreational opportunities, my main focus has been to provide a place for our community to learn to swim that is safe and fun. The summer of 2008 is the first since 1992 that our Park District will have its own pool in operation; I am hopeful this small pool will be just the beginning of more to come. I was originally appointed to the BBVPR Commission to replace Roger Beck in March, 2002. I was re-appointed to a term that lasts until January, 31, 2010. I was Vice Chair 2006-'07, and Chair 2007-'08.

Don Pletcher
Big Bear Lake
I moved up to Big Bear in 2000. Having lived “down the hill” my whole life, the prospect of small town living in a close knit community sounded very attractive to me.
My son and I came up and made a life for ourselves. I got involved in his school activities as well as Old Miner’s Days, CSD, and volunteering for various organizations as well.
One of the perks working for the Grizzly newspaper, was all the people I met in our community! I have made many close friends up here now and love living here.
Working with the Recreation and Park District is something that I have been looking forward to. My youngest just graduated, but I truly feel that all the kids in our valley are “OUR” kids and like the saying goes “it takes a village to raise a child”. I looking forward to working with Reese and the commission to continue providing opportunities for our kids to enjoy.
Don Pletcher has served on the Commission since being appointed by Supervisor Hansberger in November 2002 . He looks forward to serving the District and in providing representation for every resident of the District.
Don was a part time residence of Big Bear Lake since the 1980’s, moving full time to Big Bear Lake in 1999. He wanted to be more involved with improvements to our parks and recreation programs in Big Bear Valley.
Don was born in California and graduated from the University of California Riverside. He has three girls who attend school in Big Bear and participate in park and rec programs. Since joining the commission he has seen many improvements. One of his goals is to improve recreation opportunities for all. Through Park programs there are opportunities to change people’s lives and improve community.
He looks forward to being part of making improvements to our valley a lifelong commitment and contribution. Don looks forward to you comments, ideas and suggestions.
